Kites Galore/Picnic at Berkeley's Waterfront
1:00 p.m. - afternoon
Join Jonathon Eros in flying wonderous things in the beachfront
sky. Picnic fare to share will be welcome with your arrival at the
Berkeley Marina, for world-class kiting (beginners on up). Look for
leader atop main kiting hill, close to kite vendor & circular parking
ring. He'll have hat/vest, and, minimally, spikey balls on 21' pole to
help show our rendezvous point. GPS aficionados may try 37* 52.241'
N, 122* 19.128' W, at 72 feet.
Leader has a few cheap kites, and kites will be for sale
there (at 37* 52.192í N, 122* 19.168í W, 13 ft). After we kite to
satisfaction, weíll discuss meal or other options further on in Berkeley.
Expect both novices and experienced skyspinners. Drizzle does not
cancel, but light or heavier rain within 3 hours of event does cancel.
DIRECTIONS: Berkeley Marina is actually
called Cezar Chavez Park, and is at western foot of University Avenue.
Exit Hywy 80 at University Ave. and head west, bearing right when the road
splits. Or look up the map.
ORGANIZER: Jonathon Eros, 415/752-2699, 6
- 9 p.m., but please continue to call if organizer's return call to you
is long distance, or try grizzly@laughingbear.org. If you need to
call during event, try his cellphone (can be iffey at the waterfront) that
day at 415/710-2533.
Supervised children welcome. Co-listed with various
groups. No dogs, please.
(HELP: If you don't have anything better to
do and plan to attend the above, Eros can use one or two people to show
up about an hour early and help him drag lots of junk from vehicle to top
of hill. Please telephone and let him know if you'll be there early
to help out...)
